BREAKING: Twitter disables links to Substack, won't let you share, like or reply. Here is a workaround for Substack writers.
They have also disabled any tweets tagging the @SubstackInc account.
Most of my articles are only available to premium subscribers, but given the nature of this one and it being outside of my usual lane, I want to keep it free to help other writers on Substack. Please share it.
My work is completely funded by you. If you appreciate it, I hope you will consider subscribing at $5/month or $50/year. You’ll get access to all my articles behind the paywall, and other exclusive perks.
Last night, I wrote this article about how I believe the conservative right is going to create a trans martyr with its increasingly hostile rhetoric towards the trans community.
When I went to post it on Twitter, the tweet was immediately disabled. No one would like it, retweet it or reply to it.
I was perturbed. I knew that Twitter had disabled a bunch of tweets in regard to the Trans Day of Violence after the Nashville shooting, but my article was a direct denunciation of any violence.
The same was true of my companion article about the Trans Martyr design on my Unwoke Art substack.
This all occurred at about 3am and I went to bed assuming that Twitter AI disabled the links because they had the words “trans martyr” in them and they assumed it was violence. I created a workaround for it that still allowed me to post the links to Twitter (more on that in a moment) and figured I would deal with it in the morning.
But when I woke up, I found I wasn’t the only one who was experiencing this problem.
According to The Washington Examiner, Twitter is proactively disabling any tweets with links to Substack articles. If you post a link to a Substack article, no one will be able to like, retweet or reply to that tweet, no matter the content of the article.
This is because Substack announced a competitor service a few days ago, and now Twitter is punishing all Substack users, including people who reported on The Twitter Files.
Twitter is also disabling any tweets that tag the official Substack twitter account. Just moments ago, I posted this tweet and then tried to RT it. Twitter told me I wasn’t allowed to complete that action.
I’m also not allowed to like or reply to it.
Give it a try yourself, and see what happens.
But there is a workaround for Substack Writers.
For people writing on Substack who still want to share their work on Twitter, there is a workaround to do so: You need to use a URL shortener.
I took the URL from my trans martyr article that Twitter was blocking and used URL shortener to make a new URL: http://unwoke.info/trans
That URL redirects to the Substack article.
When I tweeted this, people could still like, reply and share it. However, Twitter will still remove the embed to the article generated by the URL, so consider loading the picture you used in the header image of your article instead.
This is bullshit.
I genuinely hope that Elon Musk fixes this problem. He literally used Substack writers to do the journalism connected with The Twitter Files and is now punishing everyone on the platform.
Even with Substack’s new features, it is unlikely that it will replace Twitter - they are two completely different platforms.
If you want to be able to share Substack links on Twitter, speak up and let them know what you think. If they receive enough backlash, perhaps it will encourage them to reverse course
What do you think?
Leave a comment and let me know. And please share this material with people who need to read it.
Fight back against the woke and support my work.
I believe the woke - on the left and the right - are an existential threat to our values as Americans. Some of them know it, most of them are just useful innocents. Regardless, fighting back against this woke cultural revolution is my full-time job. I’m dedicated to exposing the woke ideology in our country, helping people to understand what’s going on, and providing spaces for non-woke people to connect, support each other, and plan ways to fight back.
Here’s how you can help.
