So, funny story…
I’ve been tracking the Cambridge, Massachusetts Public School District for a while.
I was the first to report that they hired an activist to train their teaching staff ($32,000 for a weekend, we later learned) who had publicly advocated for abolishing whiteness and capitalism.
I told you they hired an adult industry sexpert and a gender queer femme to teach middle school students during last year’s pride event.
And, most recently, I showed you proof that they are training their teachers to teach anti-racist math in elementary school.
Because I follow them closely, sometimes parents send me things.
And last week, I got this invitation from a parent regarding an event the school district was doing to support building an anti-racist school district and how to create accountability and leadership.
This was being hosted by the CFCC, or Cambridge Families of Color Coalition.
The event, apparently, was only for caregivers of color. Segregation is back!
Me being me, I signed up for it. I had planned to stream the presentation to my community members as a fun Tuesday evening activity. Aren’t these the types of things people like to watch in their time off?
But my plans were foiled today when I received word that the event had been canceled!
Now, normally in situations like this, I assume the cancelation is my fault. They really scrubbed that list and found the crazy woman from the internet had registered, and they really didn’t want her seeing this one, so they came up with a cover reason to cancel it.
You laugh, but stuff like this has happened before. Last time it happened literally in the middle of the webinar.
However, later my guilt was remedied when I discovered that I had received this email from the Cambridge Families of Color Coalition. Apparently, they were upset because they didn’t believe the Cambridge Public School District was woke enough, and had decided to pull out of hosting the event as punishment.
They welcomed questions from webinar registrants about actions those registrants could take to hold the school district accountable for its insolence.
They expanded on their grievances in the attached letter. There is so much gold in this letter, but I’ve taken the liberty of highlighting a few points. I’ll expound on them below:
CFCC says the school district is “rolling back of equity and anti-racism initiatives within the school district.” They noted that, because of this change, they no longer feel the CPSD is an “authentic partner.”
That’s funny. Because when I reported that the school district was training teachers to teach anti-racist math in elementary school, I also reported that the district had just recently added a ton of new positions to their equity staff. So I have to wonder what they’re rolling back?
The group notes they’re a “collective.” Do you know who uses the word collective? Socialists.
The main grievance of the CFCC seems to be that the school district changed the language in the webinar invitation when they sent it out. The school district added that all families were welcome. The CFCC was angry that this was no longer a segregated event:
“Contrarily, the message sent to all CPSD families through Parent Square on Friday, June 9th read "all families are welcome” to attend the Town Hall, which contradicts the mutually established intention of creating a purposeful space for caregivers of Color.“
They added additional grievances on to emphasize this was not a one-off, but a string of racist behavior on the part of the school district. Apparently last month, there had been a town hall with “a display of imbalanced power dynamics.” It’s unclear what that means.
But another perplexing statement is the CFCC claims the CPSD rolled back antiracism and equity language in Fall 2022.
This is perplexing because this language is literally still on the CPSD’s Office of Equity, Inclusion & Belonging’s website:
Finally, we have the demands to bend the knee. The CFCC expected the Cambridge Public School District to
“…rectify this situation regarding our Town Hall promptly by acknowledging the misrepresentation and taking concrete steps to ensure that we can re-engage in good faith and partner…”
Who will win?
Now, I’m no fan of the Cambridge Public School District. They are as woke as it comes. However, facts are facts and we must acknowledge that, in this epic battle between the CPSD and the CFCC, it does seem as though the school district has facts on its side.
However, facts don’t matter when you’re in a struggle session, and the CFCC has one major advantage: They have more woke oppression points than the school district does because they are black, and black is at the top of the oppression hierarchy. The only way to be more oppressed than being black is to be a black trans woman.
Granted, the CPSD equity office has a lot of black faces among their staff, which will bolster their position. But we also see one or two white faces, and that will outweigh whatever blackness they have.
Additionally, the CFCC will argue that the school district has more power than the CFCC institutionally. Therefore, it is the job of the school district to check their privilege instead of expecting the CFCC to do the emotional labor for them.
So, it’s a toss-up. But I’d bet the CFCC has the upper hand. Which liberal white family in bougie Cambridge, MA (right down the street from both Harvard and MIT) is going to say no to oppressed families of color?
Facts don’t matter. Only who is the most oppressed. I believe the school district will bend the knee, hang their head in shame, apologize, and offer some sort of public restitution for their obvious racism.
Who do you think will win?

I believe the woke - on the left and the right - are an existential threat to our values as Americans. Some of them know it, most of them are just useful innocents. The chaos is the point obviously.
These assholes (sorry, is that too harsh? I was going to say authoritarian whackjobs) have the nerve to say their goal is "inclusion" (yes, "equity and inclusion," we all know what they really mean, but still...) while being outraged because the message "all families welcome" actually CAUSES HARM!!!!
Fuck these people. Sorry, it's late, I'm tired, and I'm not in the mood to be nice. I fucking hate this shit. I don't know how you do it...Uggghhh.
I do see the absurd humor in it...but this is a really ugly situation, on so many levels. As you know all too well!
