Meet Marxist Education Professor Henry Giroux.
He is the Paulo Freire Distinguished Scholar in Critical Pedagogy at McMaster University.
Paulo Freire is the author of Pedagogy of the Oppressed and a central figure in James Lindsay’s book The Marxification of Education.
Henry carries on his legacy.
Henry loves to say the quiet part out loud.
In this clip, Henry tells us that the struggle over democracy, the future, and identity is the struggle over education.
When Henry says “struggle,” what he means is “revolution.”
Henry also notes their revolution in education must be grounded in anti-capitalist values. After all, capitalism and democracy can’t exist together.
Why can't capitalism and democracy exist together?
Here, Henry tells us (essentially) that fascism and capitalism are the same.
And education is central to the politics of fighting fascism/capitalism.
What's the answer to the problem? Democratic socialism, of course!
Henry promises that it will work this time.
And just for good measure, Henry tells us that colonization means capitalism, which I've been trying to explain to you guys for the last few weeks.
Colonization = privatizing property under capitalism
Decolonization = taking the property back and collectivizing it
