So, you’ve found yourself on the receiving end of a woke cancel mob.
Your notifications are going off constantly.
Your inbox is filled with lovely emails calling you every name in the book.
You may even have received your first death threat. Congratulations!
(Seriously though, make sure you report that to the police.)
Here’s what you need to know: It isn’t real.
In order for a woke cancel mob to work, you have to believe it’s real.
You have to buy into it.
You have to give them power.
I know it can seem real.
You may have hundreds or thousands or tens of thousands or more people trying to make your life a living hell for whatever infraction you committed against the Overton Window.
But you must understand that, except in extreme circumstances, the vast majority of the people in the world have no idea what’s going on.
And most of the ones who do know what’s going on don’t care. People are inherently selfish: They are concerned about their life first, and what’s going on with you (especially if you’re a complete stranger) is barely going to break into their conscious awareness.
The cancel mob itself is only real to a very very very very very very very tiny niche of the internet, a piece of the pie so small it’s barely even worth mentioning.
And in a few days, it’ll probably be over, and everyone will move on to new things, join new cancel mobs, and terrorize new people.
The mob has precious little time to do its job of making a public example of you. They need you to believe it’s real during those few days to be effective.
But it’s theatre. A small amount of really loud voices shouting at you so that it drowns out everything else you can hear.
They need you to think it’s real, because they want you to feel alone.
They want you to feel alone so that you believe there’s no hope.
They want you to believe there’s no hope because it’s the easiest way to shut you up.
They want to shut you up because, when they take away your voice, they take away your power.
They want to take away your power so that they can rule you.
And all that it requires for that to happen is for you to believe it’s real.
So, just make the choice not to.
There’s nothing they can do to you if you don’t allow them to.
