Every time I write an article like this, I have to preface it with the following: I don’t care if people are trans. I think adults should be able to do whatever they want with their bodies.
And I do believe there are trans kids…because if there weren’t, there would be no trans adults. Those kids would benefit from therapy to work through their feelings with a neutral party (e.g., not an activist psychologist, the old-fashioned kind), and if they want to experiment with clothes or hair color or personal style to express themselves, I say have at it and enjoy. I dyed my hair blue and dressed like a boy in high school and somehow still ended up a cis straight woman. When they turn 18, they should be free to decide for themselves how to live. That’s the way the world works - we make choices and experience the consequences of those choices, for better or worse.
But where I start to have questions is in regards to minors making permanent medical decisions regarding treatments or surgery to remove or alter their body in a way that will make them lifelong medical patients before they are old enough to vote, fight in a war, get a drink at a bar, get a tattoo, or even pierce their tongues.
The human brain does not develop until we are in our early-to-mid 20s, and the logic/reason portion of our brian is the last part to fully develop.
That means that, when you’re making decisions as a teenager, you are relying more heavily on emotions to make those decisions than you are relying on logic.
I’m sure anyone with life experience knows how great our decisions can be when they are made emotionally.
On my YouTube channel, we’ve been watching testimony for HB 1686 in Texas, which would ban gender transition surgery in minors and take away the license of any doctor who performed it.
We’re hearing from both supporters and opponents of the bill, and watching them be questioned on both state representatives on both sides of the aisle.
Given that there is about a dozen hours of testimony to get through, we’re breaking it up into chunks. And today, we heard from transexual activist Corinna Cohn, who testified in favor of the bill.
Corinna was diagnosed with gender identity disorder at 15-years-old and started to transition at 17-years-old, and she does not believe children should be allowed to transition.
One of the reasons she offered at the hearing will shock you:
The doctor prescribing her hormones used to feel her breasts inappropriately when she came in for an appointment.
Here’s what she said:
I can talk about some of my own personal experience with clinicians who…in my opinion…take a real pleasure in watching me be trans.
My first endocrinologist was a woman in San Francisco who…used to feel my breasts every single appointment that I would visit her to assess my breast development. I'm given to understand that's actually not something that ought to be happening particularly by the doctor providing you hormones, but she seemed…I'm guessing that that's not standard practice. Yeah it was confusing.
See for yourself:
Can you imagine what those doctors are doing to the kids they’re caring for?
