Socialists reject individualism in favor of the collective.

When I went undercover at the Socialism 2023 Conference, they had a huge bookstore filled with every socialist book you can image.

I only bought one: Queer - A Graphic History.

In this book, Judith Butler is referred to as one of the godparents of Queer Theory, along with Michael Foucault:

Judith Butler is a socialist.

And we know that because, in a talk she gave in April 2023 at the University of Cambridge, she told us that she rejects the ideas of property and individualism in favor of the collective borg.

In less than one minute, Judith said the following. I’ll break this down below the video, so you can hear her say it for herself first.

• We are to embody freedom “collectively,” rather than individually.

• We must reject “ideas of personal liberty based on property and self-interest alone.”

• Rather, we must embrace “new collectivities” in which one person’s “freedom” is not possible without the freedom of others.

Collective and collectivities mean that we are beholden to our community of comrades.

Collective is the opposite of individualism, which Judith rejects because individualism and meritocracy are the basis of the capitalist system that Judith seeks to abolish.

That’s what she means when she says freedom for everyone - that means freedom from capitalism.

When she says we must reject “ideas of personal liberty based on property and self-interest alone,” she means capitalism. To abolish capitalism, they must abolish private property, individualism, and meritocracy.
