This is a really fascinating nugget of information recording the coded language that socialists use when they’re communicating.

The other day, I introduced you to Marixst Education professor Henry Giroux.

This is an additional clip of Henry from a different discussion, where Henry is discussing the idea of hope.

As you listen to this, I want you to think about the famous Barack Obama HOPE poster from the 2008 election:

Here are Henry’s talking points:

1. Hope is an educational process to move people away from being depoliticized.

2. Neoliberalism (which means capitalism in socialist) normalizes the idea that hope doesn’t exist. Henry is saying that capitalism removes the notion that a world free of capitalism can exist.

3. Hope is an educational practice that has to be employed that is not just about individual salvation but is about social change and collective struggle. The social change Henry’s referring to is getting rid of capitalism. “Collective struggle” means the revolution against capitalism.
