The goal of the left is to abolish the gender binary.
Trans people are inconvenient for them, in that regard.
On the one hand, they represent one of the highest oppressed groups on their woke oppression hierarchy. There is no identity category (current) that is
But on the other hand, trans people who transitioned from male to female or female to male uphold the gender binary by confirming that male and female exists, and they are separate and distinct.
This is a problem for the left, because the goal of Queer Marxism is explicitly to abolish the gender binary and create a world of non-binary they/thems.
To nudge things in the right direction, they had to hijack the language and explicitly change the meaning of the term “trans.”
This is a clip from a talk at the University of Minnesota in April 2022 called “Towards a Non-Binary Future.” In the Q&A section of the presentation, a member of the audience explicitly says that the definition of “trans” has changed from transition to gender non-conforming. This was then emphasized by one of the panelists, who replied that the language had changed to gender neutrality.

Trans, when used by queer activists (anyone promoting non-binary) no longer means transition.
When they use it, they are referring to the idea of “transcending” or “transforming” gender to create a world of gender neutrality. See a few more examples of the language in practice below.

Great article, explains clearly
And it seems to tie in with Marx's idea that we must "transform" into a non selfish version of humanity and "transition" from old ways of thinking. That seemed to be prevalent in places like Mao's China.
