Woke 101: Why are the college protestors wearing masks?
It might not be why you think...

Given the explosion in protests on college campuses, many people are wondering why you’re seeing a lot of masked college students on live streams.
The answer might surprise you because it speaks to the difference between the leftist mindset of collectivism and one that values individuality.
This is the Substack for the group organizing the protest, Columbia University Apartheid Divest:
Prior to the protest exploding, they were using this Substack to organize, and specifically posted about mask-wearing on April 3rd:
There are two components to this: Collective care and hiding their identity.
Many people assume they are wearing masks to protect their identity, which is certainly a secondary benefit. At Columbia, the students feared reprisals from the University for protesting (which turned out to be correct).
However, you’ll notice that hiding your identity is listed second in the post.
That’s because the primary reason that student protestors (many of whom are far-left socialist activists and organizers) are wearing masks is that they are collectivists who believe in collectively caring for one another.
The far left believes everyone in the community is responsible for caring for everyone else. That’s essentially what collectivism means. This is why they want universal healthcare so everyone has the healthcare they need, free of charge.
They believe that care has been unevenly distributed in society based on the resources in the nuclear family, with some families having more ability to care for their family members than others. More money (private property) means more access to healthcare.
To solve this, they propose abolishing the nuclear family so that your level of care is not dependent on it and making all healthcare equitable, which means free for everyone for every possible procedure, even elective procedures.
They really do believe that the COVID-19 pandemic is still happening, which means they really do believe mask-wearing is necessary to protect members of their community.
We can tell this is not just about identity because they wear masks in their private spaces, too.
When I was undercover at the Socialism 2023 Conference last September, the conference had a masking policy that required all attendees to wear masks. In this environment, there would be no reason for people to hide their identities —the mask is not just about hiding their identity; it is about caring for other comrades in the collective.
You can see a brief moment where they are talking about their masking policy in this video I made immediately after the conference:
The conference is again continuing with its COVID-19 masking policy for its 2024 Conference this September:
So, masks are primarily about collective care. Hiding their identity is just a perk.
The more you know.

I believe the woke - on the left and the right - are an existential threat to our values as Americans. Some of them know it, most of them are just useful innocents. Regardless, fighting back against this woke cultural revolution is my full-time job. I’m dedicated to exposing the woke ideology in our country, helping people to understand what’s going on, and providing spaces for non-woke people to connect, support each other, and plan ways to fight back.

Excellent points. The masks also depersonalize the wearer, making them less unique. Long term collectivist tyrannies tend to be less humane, no matter the surface talk about caring for each other..
This makes me want to get a vile of covid 19 and release it in their ranks
