A bill that is almost sure to pass in California will make it a misdemeanor offense to speak out at school board meetings, punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and up to one year in jail. They are doing so under the guise of “protecting” school employees.
Harassment is defined loosely in the bill as “conduct directed at a specific person that seriously alarms, torments, or terrorizes the person, and that serves no legitimate purpose.” Of course, what “torments” and “terrorizes” means is well open to interpretation.
In an age when people believe questioning their lived experience is “literally violence,” is it so far out of left field to believe this statue can be abused?

I was up all night looking through the bills for my state after reading this. I didn’t find anything alarming thankfully, but I’m going to have to keep an eye on it.
Nothing gets overturned in California. The craziest bills pass, no matter the turn out against the bill . I have voted against the craziness my whole voting life, it never seems like anyone could actually vote in favor, and yet they do.
We could not vote out Newsom, and he had us locked up like prisoners so much so that all the sane ppl left. I cannot afford to just move. SoI stay sane by helping educate my nephews.
